Adharanand Finn is a British author, journalist and podcaster, and one of the most engaging writers at work on the subject of running. He made his name with Running with the Kenyans, published in 2012, for which he moved with his family to Iten, in Kenya, to investigate what makes Kenyan athletes so astonishingly fast. The book was named Sunday Times Sports Book of the Year, shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year, and won him Best New Writer at the Sports Book Awards.
He has kept moving ever since: to Japan for The Way of the Runner, an immersion in that country’s running culture and its ekiden relays, and into the world of extreme endurance for The Rise of the Ultra Runners, which earned another William Hill shortlisting. In 2024 he ran 1,400 miles around Ireland over ten weeks, gathering material for his next book. He writes regularly for The Guardian and hosts a running podcast whose guests have ranged from the marathon great Eliud Kipchoge to the snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan – who chose Running with the Kenyans as his book on Desert Island Discs.
