Who is Alan Carr?

Alan Carr, born in 1976, is an English comedian, broadcaster, writer and television personality whose breakthrough came in 2001, when he won the City Life Best Newcomer of the Year and the BBC New Comedy Awards. From the Manchester comedy circuit he rose to national fame co-hosting The Friday Night Project with Justin Lee Collins, then spent the best part of a decade behind the desk of his own chat show, Alan Carr: Chatty Man.

The CV since reads like a tour of British light entertainment: team captain on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, star of the sitcom Changing Ends, and winner of the first series of The Celebrity Traitors in 2025. Add five stand-up tours, a Radio 2 show, three British Comedy Awards, two National Television Awards and two BAFTA TV Awards – and, in 2026, the purchase of Ayton Castle in the Scottish Borders, which feels somehow inevitable.
