Alison Espach, born in 1984, is an American novelist and a professor of English at Providence College in Rhode Island. Hers is a writing life of the patient kind: three novels in thirteen years, beginning with The Adults in 2011, followed by Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance in 2022 and The Wedding People in 2024.
That deliberate output tells you something. Espach teaches the craft as well as practising it, and an eleven-year gap between a debut and a second novel suggests a writer unwilling to let a book go before it is ready. The Wedding People, her most recent, is the one that brings her to our shelves.
