Who is Ben Mezrich?

Ben Mezrich, born in 1969, is an American author who has carved out a very specific niche: non-fiction with the momentum of a thriller, the kind Hollywood keeps optioning. Two of his best-known books became major films – The Accidental Billionaires was adapted into The Social Network, while The Antisocial Network reached cinemas as Dumb Money.

He has also written under the pen name Holden Scott. But it is the true stories under his own name that made his reputation – stories chosen, you sense, for their built-in drama, and told at pace.

Narrative non-fiction of this kind is ideal audio territory, and The Accidental Billionaires – the book behind The Social Network – is the natural place to start with Mezrich in our catalogue. There is a particular pleasure in hearing the source material for a film so many people already know: the story arrives with faces attached, yet the book got there first, and on its own terms.

For UK listeners who like their true stories told with a storyteller’s instincts rather than a reporter’s caution, Mezrich is an easy writer to spend hours with, and this title remains his calling card.
