Who is Brendan O'Carroll?

Brendan O’Carroll, born in 1955, is an Irish actor, comedian, director, producer and writer, and to television audiences he is one person above all: Agnes Brown, the foul-mouthed matriarch he has played on stage and in the BBC and RTÉ sitcom Mrs. Brown’s Boys.

Few performers are so completely identified with a single creation, and fewer still have built one so durable: Agnes has lived on stage and screen alike, and in 2015 the Irish Film and Television Academy recognised O’Carroll’s contribution to Irish television with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

Comedy performed is comedy at home in audio, and O’Carroll is a performer to his bones – actor, comedian, writer, director and producer in one. Call Me Mrs. Brown, the title in our catalogue, points straight at the creation that made his name, and for UK listeners who know the sitcom it promises the pleasure of that voice without the picture.

Fans of Agnes’s foul-mouthed charm will know exactly what they are signing up for; newcomers should treat that as a warning and a recommendation in equal measure.
