Brené Brown, born Casandra Brené Brown in 1965, is an American academic, author and podcaster who turned shame – of all subjects – into mainstream reading. Her research on shame, vulnerability and leadership reached a vast audience through a widely viewed 2010 TEDx talk, and she has since written six number-one New York Times bestsellers, among them The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, Dare to Lead and Atlas of the Heart.
She has kept one foot firmly in academia throughout, holding the Huffington Foundation’s endowed chair at the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work and a visiting professorship in management at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. Screen audiences know her too: Netflix released the documentary Brené Brown: The Call to Courage in 2019, and in 2022 HBO Max built a documentary series around Atlas of the Heart. She has also hosted two podcasts on Spotify.
