Who is Damien Lewis?

Damien Lewis (born March 1966) is a British author and filmmaker who spent more than twenty years reporting from and writing about conflict zones around the world, and the writing carries that experience in its bones. He has made around twenty films and written more than fifteen books, a body of work that has travelled: his titles have appeared in over thirty languages and on bestseller lists in many countries.

The credentials extend beyond the bookshops. Lewis is a Fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society – the sort of institutional recognition that tends to find people who have done the miles rather than merely written about them.

Our catalogue features SAS The Great Train Raid, which plants its flag firmly in Lewis territory: special forces, wartime daring and the kind of operation that sounds invented right up until the details stack up. This is where the background pays off for listeners – a conflict reporter’s instinct for ground truth applied to military storytelling, delivered at a thriller’s pace.

In audio the genre is a natural fit for UK listeners, whose appetite for special forces history shows no sign of exhausting itself, and Lewis’s decades in the world’s rougher places make him a credible guide to it. Expect momentum rather than lyricism: books like this are built to be devoured on motorways and long runs, and they know it.
