David Goggins, born in 1975, is an American motivational speaker, author and athlete with a CV that reads like a dare: former United States Air Force JTAC, retired Navy SEAL, ultramarathon runner, ultra-distance cyclist and triathlete. In 2019 he was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame, recognised for both his sporting achievements and his service in the United States Armed Forces.
His memoir Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds became a New York Times bestseller, and it made him one of the defining voices of the harder edge of modern self-improvement – a man whose credentials are unusually literal, because he has done the things he asks his audience to believe are possible.
