Who is Dawn French?

Dawn French, born in 1957, is a British actress, comedian and writer, one half of French and Saunders – the partnership with Jennifer Saunders behind the BBC sketch series that ran from 1987 to 2007. She also starred in the BBC comedies Murder Most Horrid and The Vicar of Dibley, two of the defining British sitcom runs of the 1990s.

She has been nominated for seven British Academy Television Awards, and in 2009 she and Saunders were jointly awarded the BAFTA Fellowship – the industry’s way of saying what audiences had long since decided. Few performers have held a place in the nation’s affections so securely, for so long.

Dawn French in audiobooks

Our Dawn French shelf is pure double act: French & Saunders Titting About, series 4, 5 and 6 – the duo reunited in audio, riffing with the shorthand of a decades-long friendship. The title is the mission statement: this is not a scripted showcase so much as licensed eavesdropping, two of Britain’s funniest women left alone with microphones. For anyone who grew up on the sketch shows it is the warmest kind of nostalgia; for everyone else, it is a masterclass in comic chemistry, and proof that timing this good never really retires.
