Contradiction is the oldest engine in romance, and Emma Chase puts it straight into the title. A Very Good Bad Idea sets out the terms before a word of story arrives: somebody knows perfectly well that this will complicate everything, and intends to go ahead regardless.

That is a comic register as much as a romantic one, and the running time supports the reading. At a shade over seven hours the book is trimmer than the genre average, which generally points to a writer who prefers momentum and dialogue to a long accumulation of longing.

Sean Masters narrates, one voice carrying the whole of it, and seven hours and twenty-two minutes makes for a comfortable weekend rather than a project. Newly listed titles arrive without ratings attached, so this one is still waiting on its first listener verdicts.
