Who is Faith Martin?

Faith Martin is a pen name of the English author Jacquie Walton, one of the quiet phenomena of British crime writing. She is best known for her popular detective series starring Detective Inspector Hillary Greene, and she also publishes under two further names, Maxine Barry and Joyce Cato.

The scale of her readership tells its own story: she ranks among the most-read authors of the decade on Kindle Unlimited in the UK. That is not the kind of statistic hype can buy – it comes from delivering, book after book, the dependable pleasures that mystery readers actually want, and from a work rate that three pen names only begin to suggest.

Our catalogue features Murder by Candlelight, a title that promises exactly the sort of classic British crime storytelling on which Martin has built her enormous readership. Her fiction is tailor-made for audio: mystery plotting with a steady pull, delivered at a pace that suits the rhythms of a commute or an evening’s listening. For UK listeners who work through detective series the way others work through boxsets, Martin is the kind of discovery that pays off many times over – and Murder by Candlelight is a very comfortable place to begin.
