His latest, All the Medals Have Been Handed Out, arrived in 2026 and is the most recent instalment of a life he has been telling in books since My Autobiography. This one takes in road races across the world, TT podiums, world record attempts, a Colombian trip that went badly wrong, an Arctic stint with the Royal Marines and the usual inventory of breaks and sprains.
What holds it together is the same thing that holds his television together: an absolute lack of interest in polish. He is a mechanic who races, not a celebrity who tinkers, and the book keeps its hands dirty.
Good company for anyone who follows road racing, or simply likes hearing from people who do difficult things without much ceremony. His audiobooks are on the shelf below.
