Who is Liane Moriarty?

Liane Moriarty is an Australian novelist, born in November 1966, who worked in advertising and marketing before publishing her debut, Three Wishes, in 2003. What followed was one of the great careers in modern popular fiction: ten novels, more than 20 million copies sold worldwide, and the distinction of being the first Australian author to enter the New York Times bestseller list at number one.

Four of her novels – Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers, The Last Anniversary and Apples Never Fall – have been adapted for television. Her books are usually filed under women’s fiction, though the label undersells their darkness: they typically centre on middle-class suburban women and turn on a crime or a mysterious death, with domestic abuse, grief and infertility running beneath the surface.

Liane Moriarty in audiobooks

Moriarty is a natural fit for audio because her plots run on secrets – the slow drip of what the neighbours are not saying – and that tension is even more delicious heard than read. Our catalogue features The Price of Honey, and listeners familiar with her method will know roughly what to expect: an apparently ordinary community, something buried at its heart, and domestic life examined until it cracks. For UK listeners she offers a thriller’s pull wrapped in the texture of everyday life, which makes her ideal for anyone who likes suspense with genuine emotional weight.
