Knights, shadows and a last stand: the title does most of the introducing here. The Last Shadow Knight carries the Shadow Knights name and sits in the adventure fantasy tradition that name suggests, with an order, a title to inherit and a world with rules worth learning.
Michael Webb’s entry is shelved with teen and young adult listening, and at fourteen hours it is written at full length rather than trimmed for a younger audience. That is often a good sign: series fantasy for teenagers works best when it trusts its listeners to stay the course.
Ratings here are still sparse, so there is no settled consensus to report. The recording has to be judged on its own terms, which is arguably the fairer test anyway.
