Who is Mick Herron?

Mick Herron, born in 1963, is a British mystery and thriller novelist who has become one of the defining spy writers of his era. He is the author of the Slough House series, adapted for television as Slow Horses, and his awards tell the story in shorthand: the Crime Writers’ Association Gold Dagger in 2013 for Dead Lions, and the Diamond Dagger in 2025 for lifetime achievement.

That pairing is worth pausing on – one prize for a single outstanding novel, the other for a whole career judged to have shaped the genre. Not many writers collect both, and fewer still while their books are being turned into television.

Our catalogue carries Reconstruction, a route into Herron beyond the Slough House books that made his name. His prizes were won on craft, and craft is exactly what audio rewards: tension, structure and dialogue all register more sharply when heard, and thrillers built with care rather than noise tend to be the ones that hold a listener to the end.

For UK listeners who arrived via the Slow Horses adaptation, hearing Herron in prose is the logical next step – and Reconstruction makes an intriguing detour off the main road.
