Miles Jupp, born in 1979, is an English actor and comedian with one of the more eclectic CVs in British comedy. He started in stand-up, became familiar to a generation of small children as Archie the inventor in Balamory, then graduated to two of the sharpest comedies of the era, playing John Duggan in The Thick of It and Nigel McCall in Rev.
Radio 4 listeners may know him best of all: between 2015 and 2019 he hosted The News Quiz, taking over from Sandi Toksvig, and he has appeared on more comedy panel shows than anyone could reasonably count. Jupp occupies a particular niche in British comedy – the courteous, well-spoken presence whose exasperation is always immaculately expressed.
