Certain memoirs exist to entertain. Others exist because something needed saying on the record. Not the Perfect Victim, by its title alone, announces itself as the second sort: a first-person account that sits as squarely on the crime and thriller shelf as it does under biographies and memoirs.
That double filing is the whole point. Testimony written from the inside reads very differently from the same events reconstructed at a distance, and it asks something different of the listener too. Nikita Hand’s account is one to approach with attention rather than appetite.
