Paul McKenna, born in 1963, is a British hypnotist, behavioural scientist, broadcaster and author of self-help books – one of the most recognisable names in British self-improvement. He has fronted self-improvement television shows and runs a busy seminar career covering hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming, weight loss and motivation, alongside less familiar territory including the Zen meditation practice Big Mind, Amygdala Depotentiation Therapy and the Havening techniques.
The through-line is packaging: McKenna’s stock in trade is taking psychological techniques and delivering them to a mass audience – on screen, on stage and on the page.
