Quinn Slobodian, born in 1978, is a Canadian historian of international history, Professor of International History at Boston University and a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow. His academic route has run through some storied addresses: before Boston he held the Marion Butler McLean professorship in the History of Ideas at Wellesley College and was a residential fellow at Harvard’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.
The specialism is the thing to hold on to: the history of ideas, pursued on an international canvas. Slobodian’s trade is asking where ideas come from, how they travel and whose interests they serve – which is precisely the toolkit you want pointed at the present.
