Sandi Toksvig, born in 1958, is a Danish-British broadcaster, comedian, presenter and writer who has been part of the furniture of British radio, stage and television for decades – in the best possible sense. She spent ten years hosting The News Quiz on BBC Radio 4, took over from Stephen Fry as host of the BBC quiz show QI in 2016, and co-presented The Great British Bake Off alongside Noel Fielding from 2017 to 2020.

There is more to her than panel shows. She is a political activist who co-founded the Women’s Equality Party in 2015, she came out as a lesbian in 1994 at a time when that carried real professional risk, and she served as president of the Women of the Year Lunch from 2015 to 2017. As a writer she has produced plays, novels and books for children – a portfolio as varied as the woman herself.
