Virginia Louise Roberts Giuffre, born in 1983, was an American and Australian campaigner for survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking, and the best known of the women who publicly accused Jeffrey Epstein.
She first spoke to the press in March 2011 and to the FBI the same year, describing how she had been recruited as a teenager and trafficked. Her 2019 BBC interview moved the story decisively into public view. She brought a defamation action against Ghislaine Maxwell, settled in 2017, and in 2021 filed a civil suit against Prince Andrew that was settled in February 2022, with a payment and a donation to her charity but no admission of liability; he has consistently denied the allegations.
Alongside the litigation she built something that outlasts it. In 2015 she founded Victims Refuse Silence, relaunched in 2021 as SOAR, Speak Out, Act, Reclaim, to support survivors directly. She settled in Australia, where she married and raised three children. She died in April 2025, aged forty-one. Her memoir appeared six months later.
