The best interviewers are the ones who keep asking after the answer has arrived. William Green has spent three decades doing exactly that with the people who manage other people’s money.
Born in London in 1968, educated at Eton and then in English literature at Oxford before taking a master’s in journalism at Columbia, he has written for Time, Fortune, Forbes, The New Yorker and The Economist. He edited the Asian edition of Time from Hong Kong, then returned to London to edit its European, Middle Eastern and African editions. Alongside the journalism he has worked as an editor and ghostwriter, including on two number one New York Times bestsellers.
What sets him apart in a crowded field is that he is not especially interested in stock tips. Green treats great investors as case studies in judgement, temperament and self-knowledge, so his real subject is how a handful of unusually rational people think under uncertainty. He now hosts the Richer, Wiser, Happier podcast, which carries the same conversations onward.
