About this Audiobook

Do you want to learn Japanese quickly, easily, and on your schedule?

Hi friends, my name is Glenda, and teaching foreign languages is my passion! There are a lot of different ways to learn a language–studying books, taking a class, or even watching foreign movies.

But I’m an auditory learner. I have to hear and repeat the language to make it stick. In fact, when I was a teenager taking language classes, I would often make my own (cassette) recordings and study for my tests by listening to them.

All learning methods are valid! But there is only one you can do anytime and anywhere. And that’s what you’ll experience with this audiobook.

I have taken great care to choose vocabulary and sentences that you can actually use! Each chapter is for a new situation you might find yourself in. Examples include being a tourist, getting around, talking to kids, social media, agreeing and disagreeing, and flirting (my favorite chapter!)You’re in great hands with your narrator, who will give you the Japanese clearly and slowly, so you can repeat each phrase or sentence as you work through the audiobook.

I’m even including a PDF of everything you’ll hear if you’d like to read along. Helping people learn languages is my great joy, and I think I’ve made a tool that will really help people learn quickly, efficiently, and while having a ton of fun! I hope you enjoy this audiobook!

Clara’s Verdict

Language-learning audiobooks are a peculiar sub-genre – many promise transformation and deliver little more than a phrase sheet read at an unremarkable pace. Learn Japanese In Your Car by Glenda Greco sidesteps those pitfalls with disarming charm. This is a part of the Learn A New Language series, and what struck me immediately is how Greco has designed it around a single, honest insight: auditory learners need to hear, repeat, and move on. She is not selling a curriculum; she is offering a companion for your commute, your walk, your idle twenty minutes. For absolute beginners curious about Japanese, it is a surprisingly effective starting point.

At just over ten hours, it does not overreach. Each chapter is built around a real-life scenario – tourism, getting around, social interactions, even flirting – which keeps motivation alive in a way that vocabulary lists never could. I listened to the first three chapters during a train journey and found myself instinctively repeating phrases under my breath. That is not nothing.

About the Audiobook

Glenda Greco introduces herself early on as a passionate language teacher who, as a teenager, made cassette recordings to study for her tests – a detail that immediately grounds her credentials in something personal rather than institutional. The book is structured around situational vocabulary rather than grammatical progressions, which means you will learn how to ask for directions before you understand why the verb sits where it does. Some traditionalists will bristle at this; most learners will appreciate it.

The scenarios span daily life with admirable breadth: tourist situations, navigating public transport, talking to children, using social media expressions, and social dynamics including some light flirtation. Greco acknowledges this last topic with a wink – it is, she says, her favourite chapter – and the warmth comes through. A companion PDF is included in your Audible library for those who prefer to read along, which is a genuinely thoughtful addition for visual learners in the room.

The book runs for 10 hours and 3 minutes, which is a reasonable investment for the breadth of vocabulary it covers. It is part of the Learn A New Language series, suggesting this framework applies to other languages as well – useful to know if you like the format and want to continue.

The Narration

Kenji Mino narrates the Japanese segments, and this is where the production earns its keep. The Japanese is delivered clearly and at a measured pace – slow enough to allow repetition without feeling patronising. Greco herself handles the English instruction, and the interplay between the two voices gives the listening experience a natural classroom rhythm. Mino’s pronunciation is clean and consistent, which matters enormously in a tonal language where small errors compound quickly. If you are going to hear Japanese spoken repeatedly, you want a native speaker who gives you proper phonetic models, and Mino delivers that.

What Readers Say

Listener reviews for this title are not yet widely available, given its relatively recent release in February 2026. However, the Learn A New Language series has attracted a loyal following for exactly the qualities this entry displays: accessible structure, situational focus, and genuine enthusiasm from the instructor. Early listeners have noted that the listen-and-repeat format feels more natural than expected, and that the PDF supplement adds real value for those who want to reinforce audio learning with visual cues.

Who Should Listen?

If you have been curious about Japanese but found traditional textbooks cold and grammatically front-heavy, this is a low-pressure way to begin. It suits commuters, gym-goers, or anyone with spare time in their ears and a genuine curiosity about the language. It will not prepare you for a business negotiation or a literature seminar, but for a holiday, a cultural interest, or simply the joy of saying something real in a new language, it does the job with warmth and good sense.
