Ravage is a debut novel, and it reads like one in the best possible sense: it has the breathless energy of a writer who has something to prove and the ideas to back it up. A.L. Rook has constructed a why-choose paranormal romance with a strong heroine, genuine darkness, and a world that earns its complexity. Amy Hall’s narration is well-matched to the material. If you enjoy your romance with action, banter, and a cliffhanger ending that makes the wait for book two uncomfortable, this is very much for you.

The paranormal world-building is intriguing and earns further exploration in subsequent volumes.
The Narration
Amy Hall brings a strong, assured Raegan to the narration – capable but clearly damaged, controlled but volatile. The male characters are differentiated sufficiently to follow without confusion, and Hall handles the action sequences with appropriate pace. At 10 hours and 41 minutes, this is a well-paced listen that uses its runtime efficiently.
