Adam Kay, born in 1980, is a British television writer, author and comedian – and, crucially, a former doctor. That first career produced his best-known work: This Is Going to Hurt, his 2017 memoir about his time in medicine, which he later adapted for television himself.
His screen credits stretch well beyond his own story, taking in Crims, Mrs. Brown’s Boys and work with Mitchell and Webb. But it is the doctor-turned-writer persona that defines him. Plenty of comedians joke about hospitals; very few can do it with the authority of someone who actually did the job, and that authenticity is the engine of everything he writes.
