Who is Daniel Chidiac?

A self-published first book that simply refuses to disappear is one of publishing’s better stories, and Daniel Chidiac has one. Born in Melbourne in 1987, he put out Who Says You Can’t? You Do with no publisher behind him and watched it travel by word of mouth until international editions and translations followed. The Modern Break-Up came next, a story of heartbreak told with such unguarded directness that readers passed it around like a confession.

Chidiac writes in the register of a friend who has decided to stop being polite about your excuses. There is no clinical vocabulary and very little theory. Instead there are situations, patterns and the uncomfortable question of what you keep choosing. It is a style that irritates some readers and rescues others, and he has never much diluted it.

His books now appear in several languages on personal development, lifestyle and motivational lists, and the voice on the page is recognisably the same one across all of them.

Compact is the point. Stop Letting Everything Affect You arrived in 2025 and runs to a brisk three and three quarter hours, which is deliberate: the book is organised as a sequence of short confrontations with overthinking, emotional chaos and self-sabotage rather than as one long argument you have to hold in your head.

Listeners have taken to it, and the ratings sit high across a substantial pile of reviews, which for a self-help release this young is telling. The brevity is its best feature in audio. You can finish it on a two-day commute, then go back to the three or four sections that actually described you, which is how most people end up using it.

If overthinking is the thing you would most like to put down, this is a sensible place to start. Press play below.
