Who is Ed Conway?

Ed Conway (born 1979) is an English journalist and one of the most recognisable voices in British economics coverage. In 2011 he became the first Economics Editor in the history of Sky News, the post he still holds, working from Sky Central in West London.

Print came first: Conway served as Economics Editor of both The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph, and before that as a correspondent for the Daily Mail. It is the classic apprenticeship of the great explainer – years spent turning abstractions into stories a general reader will actually follow, on deadline, without dumbing down. That training is exactly what carries into his books, and it is why they read like journalism at its best rather than economics at its driest.

Material World is Conway’s calling card in our catalogue, and it suits audio unusually well: a journalist’s book, driven by curiosity and clean explanation rather than academic apparatus. His particular gift, honed across newsrooms and nightly bulletins, is for making the machinery of the modern economy feel concrete, even dramatic, and the listener gets that directly – the sense of a well-briefed correspondent walking you through how the world actually works. For anyone who likes non-fiction rigorous but conversational, this is a natural companion for the commute, and proof that economics need not sound like homework.
