Jamie Oliver (born 27 May 1975) is an English celebrity chef, restaurateur and cookbook author who has been a fixture of British life since The Naked Chef arrived on BBC Two in 1999. The casual, unfussy approach to cooking made him a television natural, and the publishing numbers that followed are extraordinary: more than 50.6 million books sold across over 32 titles, making him one of Britain’s best-selling non-fiction authors.
Oliver has never been content to stay behind the stove. His Feed Me Better campaign of 2005 pushed healthier food into schools and won government backing, his TED Talk earned the 2010 TED Prize, and he was appointed MBE in 2003 for services to the hospitality industry. The restaurant side has known rougher weather – the group launched with Jamie’s Italian in 2008 went into administration in 2019 – but his public standing has proved rather more durable than his dining rooms.
