An Edinburgh Comedy Award winner and 5 Live regular, on the page with Thirst

Who is John Robins?

John Robins, born in 1982, is an English stand-up comedian and radio presenter, best known to many as one half of a radio double act: he co-hosts a show and podcast with Elis James on BBC Radio 5 Live. He is, in other words, a voice people already invite into their ears by the hour.

The comedy pedigree is beyond argument: in 2017 he was joint winner of the Edinburgh Comedy Award – as significant a laurel as live comedy in this country offers. Add regular broadcasting to the stand-up and you have a performer whose entire skill set points towards the microphone rather than away from it.

Our catalogue carries Thirst, and the one-word title is very much in the comedian’s idiom: blunt, loaded and open to more than one reading. Comedians tend to write the way they speak, and Robins earns his living by voice twice over – on stage and on air – which bodes well for how the material sits in a listener’s ear.

Radio is the craft of holding attention with nothing but talk, and that skill transfers directly to the audiobook. For listeners who like their comedy conversational and their prose unshowy, Thirst makes an easy recommendation.
