Who is Ken Robinson PhD?

Sir Ken Robinson (1950 to 2020) was a British author, speaker and international advisor on education in the arts, consulted by governments, non-profits and education and arts bodies around the world. Born into a working-class Liverpool family, he directed the Arts in Schools Project from 1985 to 1989, served as Professor of Arts Education at the University of Warwick from 1989 to 2001, and was knighted in 2003 for services to the arts.

In 2001 he moved with his wife and children to Los Angeles to become senior advisor to the president of the J. Paul Getty Trust, and from that transatlantic base he became one of the most widely heard voices on education and the arts – a Liverpudlian professor advising the world.

Robinson’s subject – how children learn, and how schooling helps or hinders them – could hardly be better suited to the parents who make up so much of the audiobook audience, listening in the gaps of family life. Our catalogue includes You, Your Child, and School, which addresses precisely the audience its title names: parents trying to make sense of their child’s education and their own role in it.

His authority came from an unusual blend – a working-class Liverpool childhood, a Warwick professorship, a knighthood and years advising governments – and that mix of groundedness and expertise is exactly what a listener wants in a guide to so personal a subject.
