Liam Turner writes practical guides to the platforms most of us use every day and few of us have ever properly learned. His books sit in the space between the official help pages, which assume you already know the vocabulary, and the breathless online course, which assumes you want to become a marketer. Turner assumes neither.
The work divides into two lines. The first is a set of foundations titles, taking one platform at a time and walking a newcomer through it from the account settings outward: what the buttons actually do, what the algorithm appears to reward, what a beginner can safely ignore. The second and more recent line looks at what artificial intelligence has done to those same platforms, and at the tools now within reach of anyone making things for them.
The register throughout is patient and unhurried. Nothing is assumed, jargon is explained the first time it appears, and the tone stays closer to a competent friend at the kitchen table than to a guru on a stage.
