How to Age: Britain's wellbeing broadcaster on living longer and living better

Who is Liz Earle?

Most people in Britain first met the name on a bottle. Liz Earle MBE co-founded the skincare company that carries her name in 1995, built it into one of the country’s best known beauty brands, and sold it in 2010. Less widely known is that she had been writing about health and nutrition for years before any of that, and that the writing is what she went back to.

Born in 1963, she has now published more than thirty five books on beauty, nutrition and wellbeing, founded the Liz Earle Wellbeing magazine and website, and become one of the most persistent public voices in Britain on the menopause and on what actually happens to women’s health in midlife. She hosts the Age Better podcast and was for years a familiar presence on ITV’s This Morning.

Her method is consistent: read the research, translate it without dumbing it down, and never sell anyone a miracle.

How to Age is her most ambitious book and the one to start with here. The subtitle promises to supercharge your health, but the substance is sober enough: the pillars she keeps returning to are food, hormones, sleep and strength training, each set against what the current research on healthspan and cellular ageing will actually support. It reached number one on the Sunday Times list on publication.

She narrates it herself across ten hours, which matters more than usual for a book of protocols and daily plans; the emphasis falls where she intends it, and the practical sections are easy to follow by ear.

Treat it as a handbook rather than a single sitting, and dip back in as you go. It is waiting for you below.
