Who is Michael A. Singer?

Michael A. Singer, born in 1947, is an American author, journalist and motivational speaker best known for his writing on spirituality, meditation and New Age philosophy. Three of his books – The Untethered Soul (2007), The Surrender Experiment (2015) and Living Untethered (2022) – have been New York Times bestsellers, and in 1975 he founded the Temple of the Universe, a yoga and meditation centre in Alachua, Florida.

His is not the usual guru CV. A former software developer, Singer co-founded the medical software firm Medical Manager in 1981, stayed on after WebMD acquired it in a deal valued at roughly five billion dollars, and resigned in 2005. The coda was less serene: in 2010 he was prosecuted in relation to securities fraud from his WebMD years, eventually forfeiting 2.5 million dollars in settlements.
