Who is Michael McIntyre?

Michael McIntyre, born in 1976, is a British comedian, writer and television presenter with a reasonable claim to being the biggest mainstream stand-up of his generation: in 2012 he was the highest-grossing stand-up comedian in the world. On television he fronts Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and the game show The Wheel, having earlier hosted his own Comedy Roadshow from 2009 to 2011, appeared three times on Live at the Apollo and judged the fifth series of Britain’s Got Talent.

He has performed on the Royal Variety Performance three times, becoming its youngest-ever host in 2010, and his stand-up tours – from Live & Laughing through Showtime, Happy and Glorious and the Big World Tour to Macnificent – map a career spent filling the country’s biggest rooms.

Michael McIntyre in audiobooks

This catalogue carries A Funny Life, and the title is the pitch: the story of a man whose living depends on strangers laughing on cue. Comedians tend to make natural audiobook material – they think in rhythm, build in callbacks and know precisely how long to hold a pause – and McIntyre has spent a career proving those instincts at arena scale.

For UK listeners this is as mainstream as audio comedy gets, in the best sense: broad, polished and engineered for maximum laughs per mile of motorway. If his stand-up has ever made a long journey feel shorter, his world in audiobook form will do the same.
