Raynor Winn, born in 1962, is an English long-distance walker and writer whose second book made her a household name. The Salt Path, an autobiographical memoir and travel diary, became a Sunday Times bestseller in 2018, and a film adaptation followed in May 2025.
Honesty requires a caveat. In July 2025 a report in The Observer challenged the two events on which the book’s story rests: her husband’s terminal diagnosis and the circumstances in which the couple lost their home in North Wales. Readers will make their own judgement about what that does to a memoir sold on its truthfulness; it has certainly complicated the book’s afterlife, and it would be odd for a review site not to mention it.
