About this Audiobook

Stitch’s summer gets interesting when his family goes on vacation – to a mosquito sanctuary! Based on the Disney Agent Stitch novels, but equally enjoyable on its own, this Audible Original follows Lilo, Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakley in another wacky, heartfelt, out-of-this-world adventure.

When Pleakley learns of a mosquito sanctuary in West Virginia, he convinces his ‘ohana to embark on a road trip so he can continue his audio-journal study into Earth’s most important species – and prove to Jumba that he is a real scientist. But they quickly realize that everything is not as it seems. Confronted with suspicious scientists, rumors of a mosquito cryptid terrorizing their campsite, and a new friend in need, it will take all of their investigative skills – and a little hypnotism – to get to the bottom of this Mansquito mystery.

Clara’s Verdict

I will confess, without embarrassment, that I have a soft spot for Lilo and Stitch. The original film’s central argument – that family is the people who show up for you, however chaotic and unconventional the showing-up might be – has always struck me as more emotionally honest than most children’s entertainment attempts. Disney Agent Stitch: The M-Files: Rise of the Mansquito is an Audible Original that extends that universe into a new adventure, narrated by Chris Sanders – the original voice of Stitch since 2002 – which is not a small thing. The result is two hours and forty-three minutes of exactly what it promises: warm, funny, slightly unhinged family adventure that treats its young audience with genuine affection and respects their capacity for narrative tension without overwhelming them.

No listener reviews have accumulated yet, given the very recent release date, but the pedigree and creative decisions speak clearly for themselves.

About the Audiobook

Pleakley, committed entomologist and devoted chronicler of Earth’s most misunderstood species, has learned of a mosquito sanctuary in West Virginia. He persuades his ‘ohana – Lilo, Stitch, Jumba, and himself – to embark on a road trip so he can advance his ongoing audio-journal study and prove definitively to the long-suffering Jumba that he is, in fact, a real scientist. As with most Pleakley plans, complications arise almost immediately upon arrival.

The sanctuary conceals something troubling: scientists with unclear and possibly sinister motivations, persistent rumours of a cryptid stalking the campsite after dark, and a new friend in genuine need of the kind of help that only this particular family can provide. The Mansquito of the title is revealed with appropriate comic horror – it is exactly as absurd and menacing as you’d hope – and the team’s response draws on every member’s specific strengths: investigative skills, Stitch’s unique approach to problems that involve both chaos and loyalty, and a touch of hypnotism deployed at a critical moment.

The ‘ohana dynamics that made the original stories so enduring are present and well-served throughout. The bickering, the loyalty, the specific joy of watching a found family negotiate considerable differences in temperament and species – all of it is here. The story is described as based on the Agent Stitch novels but equally accessible without prior knowledge of that series, which means no homework is required. Running time: 2 hours and 43 minutes – ideal for a single long journey or two shorter sittings.

The Narration

Chris Sanders is the voice of Stitch. That is, honestly, most of what needs to be said – the character is simply inextricable from that particular voice and that particular register of comedic alien warmth barely containing the potential for chaos. Sanders narrates the full story rather than just Stitch’s dialogue, which means he brings the same fluency to the ensemble: Pleakley’s flappable enthusiasm, Jumba’s gruff affection, Lilo’s particular brand of determination are all rendered with the ease of someone who has inhabited this universe for over twenty years. For young listeners who have grown up with the films, hearing Sanders tell a new story will feel immediately and pleasurably like returning somewhere familiar.

It is worth dwelling for a moment on what makes the ‘ohana dynamic work specifically in audio format. The original films relied heavily on visual gags and the specific expressiveness of Stitch’s character design – the way his ears fold, the way his expression shifts between gleeful chaos and genuine loyalty. In audio, all of that emotional work has to be carried by voice and by the writing. Sanders and the Disney Press creative team understand this, and the story compensates by leaning into dialogue and situational comedy that plays particularly well when heard rather than seen. The Mansquito mystery is built for audio – it works through accumulation of strange details rather than a visual reveal – and the road trip structure gives the script natural opportunities for the kind of ensemble banter that audio storytelling handles effortlessly.

What Readers Say

Too recently released to have accumulated listener responses at time of writing. Given Chris Sanders’s involvement, the Audible Original production quality that Disney has brought to previous children’s titles, and the strong existing fandom for the Lilo and Stitch universe, early adoption from that audience seems highly likely. The story’s designed accessibility – no prior Agent Stitch novel knowledge required – means it will also work for families encountering the extended universe for the first time through this audio production.

Who Should Listen?

Children aged approximately six to twelve who love Lilo and Stitch will be the core audience, and this is precisely the kind of content that makes a long car journey or a bedtime listen genuinely enjoyable for that age group. Adults who grew up with the original film and want to share the universe with their own children – without enduring a rewatch they’ve seen fifteen times – will find this a painless and occasionally genuinely funny alternative. The road trip structure, the ensemble comedy of four wildly different personalities navigating a stranger’s world, and the underlying warmth about the nature of family make this enjoyable across age ranges. For families: yes, unreservedly.
