About this Audiobook

Is seven days long enough to build a forever love?

I was living a nightmare of my own making.

My life had been erased. My past rewritten. My name changed. I had nothing from my previous life. I was no longer Bridget Keller.

I was promised federal protection. I was promised a new life. I was promised I would be safe. As it turned out, I wasn’t and I only had one place to run – back to Theo Jackson and his painfilled brown eyes, menacing demeanor, and indescribable kindness. To the man I had no business falling in love with yet I had.

I would do anything to go back and change the chain of events that sent my life spiraling. Everything except meeting Theo.

I was never supposed to see Bridget again. I’d let her go – mourned the loss and spent months trying to forget her. When a new threat sends her running back to me, I won’t waste my second chance.

There’s only one thing standing in my way, one obstacle to overcome, unfortunately he has a hostage and I have a choice to make.

Clara’s Verdict

Riley Edwards has built a committed and enthusiastic readership through her Z Corps series, and Theo – the first book in the Silver Team spinoff – is designed to reward that loyalty whilst working as an introduction for newcomers. It does both reasonably well. At six and a half hours, narrated by Amanda Willow, it is a propulsive second-chance romantic thriller that delivers reliably on its core promises: a complex, guarded hero, a heroine with genuine backbone and earned resilience, real danger, and a romance that accumulates rather than shortcuts its way to resolution. Not literary fiction – not pretending to be – but very good at what it does, which is what matters.

Edwards understands, correctly, that the thriller stakes need to feel real in order for the romance to feel earned. If the danger is merely decorative, the protective dynamic becomes hollow. Here the CIA involvement, federal witness protection failures, and the hostage situation that drives the climax are handled with enough specificity to maintain tension without overwhelming the emotional story at the centre.

About the Audiobook

Bridget Keller entered federal witness protection and was promised safety, a new identity, and a guarantee that the threat against her was contained. None of those promises held. With the danger resurfacing and her protection compromised, she has only one realistic option: return to Theo Jackson – the man she had no business falling for when he was assigned to protect her, and whom she has been trying to forget ever since. Theo, for his part, has spent months trying to do the same. When she comes back, he makes a different choice.

The series sits firmly in the romantic suspense sub-genre, and Edwards handles the balance well: genuine CIA and FBI involvement, real stakes in the hostage situation, and a threat that requires actual resolution – not just narrative hand-waving in the final act. But Bridget is not simply a victim requiring rescue; she is a woman who has survived significant upheaval with her wit and resilience intact, and the dynamic between her and Theo is built on mutual recognition rather than simple protectiveness. This is Book 1 of the Silver Team series, and connections to the wider Z Corps world run throughout – readers unfamiliar with that series will want context but can follow the story independently.

The secondary characters from the Z Corps universe make appearances that will delight existing fans and serve as introduction for newcomers. Edwards is clearly setting up a rich series architecture here, and the individual book satisfies whilst leaving room for what comes next.

The Narration

Amanda Willow handles the dual internal narrative well – Bridget’s guarded interiority and Theo’s perspective both feel distinct and inhabited. She brings warmth to the romance without softening the harder emotional edges or the thriller sequences, and the pacing across six hours keeps the tension where it needs to be. The secondary characters from the Z Corps world are clearly differentiated. The Rebels Romance production is clean and consistent throughout.

What Readers Say

Montys_bookera, returning to the Z Corps world, praised Theo as “as complex as his previous team mates” and Bridget as offering “another perfect addition of female strength and tenacity plus great wit despite losing everything”. Escape to the pages called it “a fantastic launch into a series with believable, engrossing and desirable characters all around”. Lizzie confirmed it works as a standalone but recommended reading the wider series for context on the minor characters. A Kindle Customer called it “very intense and full of intrigue, suspense and emotion with plenty of these tough guys who rock”. Rated 4.5 out of 5 from 5 Audible UK reviews.

Who Should Listen?

Readers who enjoy romantic suspense – particularly those who like their heroines genuinely resilient rather than simply plucky, and their heroes complex rather than straightforwardly dominant. Fans of the Z Corps series will want this immediately; newcomers can start here but should expect to want the earlier books afterwards. The combination of genuine thriller stakes and a slow-burn emotional payoff makes it a solid choice for a commute or a weekend listening session. If you like your romance with consequences, this delivers them.
