About this Audiobook

*** GAME ON, the final book from the MULTI-MILLION BESTESELLING INTO DARKNESS series is OUT NOW ***

THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From the author of TikTok’s favourite dark and steamy romance, Lights Out, comes Navessa Allen’s second book in the New York Times bestselling Into Darkness trilogy
I want this woman, and I’m a man who always gets what he wants.

Nico ‘Junior’ Trocci knows Lauren Marchetti is off limits. Men like him don’t get to have women like her. It’s why he pushed her away in high school and still keeps his distance. But Junior follows Lauren online, and now that the shy, bookish girl he remembers is gone, he can’t stop obsessing over the strikingly beautiful woman who has taken her place.

He’s ruthless; a walking red flag. Good thing red is my favorite color.

Lauren ‘Lo’ Marchetti knows Junior is dangerous. He broke her heart once and she won’t let him do it again. But as their flirtatious encounters escalate, Lauren starts to remember why she fell for the brooding antihero all those years ago.

As old obstacles resurface, Junior and Lauren are forced to face their true feelings for each other and decide just how far they’re willing to go for a second chance at love.

Caught Up is a fast-paced dark romance with a morally grey male lead. Some themes and scenes may be disturbing to readers. Please check the content warning at the beginning of the book.

18+ mature content. Not suitable for younger readers.

Clara’s Verdict

Caught Up is a different beast from the Regency romances around it, and I mean that as a recommendation to the right listener and a fair warning to everyone else. This is the second book in Navessa Allen’s Into Darkness trilogy, a dark, steamy, morally grey affair with a hero the author cheerfully describes as a walking red flag. It is not subtle, and it does not want to be.

What I respect is that it knows exactly what it is. The second-chance romance between Junior and Lauren runs on tension and heat, the pacing is quick, and Allen has a real gift for making a dangerous man magnetic without pretending he is safe. The book comes with content warnings for a reason, and it wears them openly rather than burying them.

It is not flawless. Some readers miss the sharper banter of the first book, and your mileage will depend entirely on your appetite for the dark-romance register. But on its own terms, it delivers precisely what it promises.

About the Audiobook

Caught Up is the second book in Navessa Allen’s New York Times bestselling Into Darkness trilogy, following the viral success of Lights Out. It is a fast-paced dark romance with a morally grey male lead, and the publisher is upfront that some themes and scenes may be disturbing, with a content warning at the start of the book and mature content strictly for adult readers.

The story is a second chance. Nico Junior Trocci has always believed that men like him do not get to keep women like Lauren Marchetti, which is why he pushed her away in high school and has kept his distance ever since. But he follows her online, and the shy, bookish girl he remembers has become someone he cannot stop obsessing over. Lauren, for her part, knows Junior is dangerous; he broke her heart once and she will not let him do it again. As their charged encounters escalate and old obstacles resurface, the two are forced to confront what they really feel and decide how far they are willing to go for a second chance at love.

The Narration

Kasi Hollowell narrates, and over ten hours and forty-one minutes she leans fully into the book’s intensity. One listener notes that the audio uses duet narration and a dual first-person point of view, which suits a story told from both sides of a volatile attraction, letting each character’s voice and self-justification come through. Hollowell handles the heat and the darker beats with commitment, and keeps the fast pace moving without letting the tension slacken.

This is a performance pitched at listeners who want their dark romance delivered with conviction rather than coyness. If that is what you are here for, the narration meets the material head on and never flinches from it.

What Readers Say

Rated 4.2 from 29 reviews, Caught Up draws a livelier spread of opinion than the Regency titles beside it, largely because readers are measuring it against a much-loved first book. Sarah preferred it to Lights Out, calling it darker and spicier and praising Lauren as an excellent lead, while advising listeners to check the trigger warnings. Claire found it a solid, steamy, emotional second-chance romance that simply did not hit quite as hard as the original for her.

The more critical voices are candid. Amber Jayne, rating it three and a half stars, adored the dog and the supporting cast but found Lauren irritating and felt the theme of acceptance came to dominate the plot. Lila still loves the series but misses the banter that made the first book so memorable. Taken together, the reviews sketch a book that is darker, hotter and more emotionally charged than its predecessor, and best approached knowing exactly that going in.

Who Should Listen?

This is strictly for adult listeners who enjoy dark, spicy romance and a morally grey hero, and who do not mind, or actively want, the content warnings the book carries. It will reward fans of the Into Darkness series and readers who came for the heat and the second-chance tension. If you prefer your romance gentle, look elsewhere; if you like it dangerous, this is your lane.

If a dark, high-heat second-chance romance is exactly your kind of trouble, this is one to queue up. Listen to Caught Up on Audible

★★★★★

Very good, but missing the banter.

I realized something recently. The best books, the most memorable books, the ones that randomly pop in my mind are the ones with the best banter between the main characters (and even the supporting characters). I like this book, I like Nico and Lauren's story, but the author set up…

Good sequel

After Lights Out, I was excited to dive into this – and while I definitely enjoyed it, it didn’t hit quite the same for me. It’s a solid second chance romance: steamy, emotional, and full of tension. There’s history between the characters and you can feel it – but I…

Loved except Lauren

3.5 ⭐️ Nick was a good character but personally I think he deserves better, Lauren was so irritating to me. I loved the dog and her friends they are probably the only reason I got through the book 😂The actual plot was good but I felt like the constant push…

Really enjoyed

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️🌶️.5Ok the first thing to say is this is not Lights Out, yes it’s the second in the series but it’s not Lights Out and it can’t be the same – it has to be different to be entertaining or it would just be dull. I liked Lights Out but…
