A Court of Thorns and Roses: Audiobooks in Order

by Sarah J. Maas

Few modern fantasy series have conquered the charts quite like Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses. What begins as a dark retelling of Beauty and the Beast unfurls into a sweeping saga of faerie courts, bargains, war and fiercely devoted romance. In audio it becomes pure escapism: immersive worldbuilding you can disappear into for entire evenings at a time.

Why listen to A Court of Thorns and Roses?

Romantasy thrives in audio because so much of it is interior: longing, suspicion and slow-building trust all land harder when a narrator is speaking directly into your ear. These are long, luxurious recordings, and A Court of Silver Flames alone offers 26 hours of Nesta’s story, making it the boxset equivalent of a full season of television.Silver Flames is also the volume listeners here have judged in the greatest numbers, holding 4.7 stars across 250 ratings. Begin with the novel that gives the series its name, then follow publication order; the emotional payoffs are strictly cumulative.Best suited to listeners who want their fantasy sharp-clawed and their romance centre stage, and who prefer a saga to sink into rather than dip from.

Clara’s verdict

Clara Whitmore

4.5/5

I approached this series expecting hype and found craft. A Court of Silver Flames is the entry I keep returning to, and its 4.7 stars from 250 listeners feels earned rather than inflated: it is angrier, more adult and more psychologically honest than anything before it. Maas is not a subtle writer, and occasionally the melodrama shows, but very few authors make twenty-six hours feel short. A guilty pleasure I refuse to feel guilty about.
