The Twilight Saga: Audiobooks in Order

by Stephenie Meyer

Few series have shaped modern young adult fiction quite like Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga, the story of Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and a love complicated by the small matter of vampirism. This collection pairs New Moon, the saga’s famous heartbreak chapter, with Midnight Sun, which retells the original romance from Edward’s darker point of view. Together they offer forty hours of listening, and both hold a 4.6-star rating from listeners.

Why listen to The Twilight Saga?

Twilight is a saga built on voice and obsession, which makes it surprisingly rewarding in audio. Heard aloud, Bella’s yearning and Edward’s brooding take on a confessional quality, closer to being told a secret than reading a novel, and the moody Pacific Northwest atmosphere settles in beautifully during long listens.Where to start depends on your history with the books. Returning fans should go straight to Midnight Sun: at nearly 26 hours it is a genuine epic, and hearing the familiar story from Edward’s anxious, guilt-ridden perspective is the freshest thing the saga has done. Newcomers are better served beginning with the original novels before New Moon. This suits romantics, nostalgic millennials revisiting a teenage love, and any listener who enjoys their fantasy heavy on feeling.

Clara’s verdict

Clara Whitmore

4.0/5

I will be honest: I resisted Twilight for years, and parts of it remain gloriously overwrought. Yet the listener ratings here, a steady 4.6 for both New Moon and Midnight Sun, tell a truth I have come to accept, which is that Meyer’s storytelling grips even when her prose wobbles. Midnight Sun is the volume I would defend in company; its length is indulgent, but the shift in perspective genuinely deepens the saga. Guilty pleasure? Perhaps. A pleasure nonetheless.
