About this Audiobook

He Is Her Ruin. She Is His Rebellion.

Daggermouth is the viral sensation by successful indie author H. M. Wolfe. A gut-wrenching, all-consuming, dark, dystopian romance – perfect for fans of The Hunger Games, The Handmaid’s Tale and Conform.

‘Daggermouth had me in a chokehold! Shadera Kael is bound to be your next favorite morally grey heroine. Impossible stakes, sizzling writing and plot twists you’ll never see coming . . . this book has everything you want in a dark dystopian’ – Sable Sorensen, USA Today bestselling author of Dire Bound

Mercy no longer exists.

New Found Haven is carved into rings of privilege and poverty, ruled by the masked elite who will do whatever it takes to hold onto power.

Obedience is demanded.

Greyson Serel has spent his life caught between two worlds. Publicly, he’s the flawless heir to the presidency. Privately, he’s entangled in secrets that could topple the regime. But when he’s forced into a political marriage meant to bind him tighter to the government’s brutal laws, he finds himself shackled to a bride who is as lethal as she is unwilling.

Rebellion is crushed.

Shadera Kael is a mercenary raised to kill, not to wed. Yet when her bullet misses its mark, survival leaves her bound to the very man she was sent to eliminate. Trapped inside the corrupt Heart, the centre of the city, she becomes both prisoner and wife, her every step watched, her every move tested.

Nothing is what it seems.

Their union is no love story – It’s a battlefield. As secrets come to light and betrayals fester within the walls of power, Greyson and Shadera must decide between annihilating one another or burning the city to the ground together.

The Heart consumes.

In a world where passion incites rebellion and loyalty is paid for in blood, their forced bond may be the spark that ignites a revolution because . . .

Love outside of your ring is a death sentence.

‘Daggermouth is one of the best dystopian romances I’ve ever read’ – Clio Evans, author of Broken Beginnings

Clara’s Verdict

There’s a certain category of book that arrives carrying enormous online momentum, and the reasonable response is wariness. Viral doesn’t mean good. But Daggermouth by H. M. Wolfe is one of those rare cases where the hype is largely justified. This is Book 1 of The Heart Duology, and it’s a properly absorbing piece of dystopian dark romance – one that earns its designation. The worldbuilding is sharp and internally consistent, the enemies-to-lovers dynamic is built with real tension rather than rushed convenience, and the prose has an urgency to it that keeps the pages – or the chapters – turning. I was impressed.

About the Audiobook

New Found Haven is a city divided into rings, where the privileged elite of The Heart rule through obedience and violence. Greyson Serel is the heir to the presidency – publicly flawless, privately entangled in secrets that could bring the regime down. Shadera Kael is a mercenary raised to kill. When her bullet misses its mark and survival demands she become Greyson’s political wife, the two are bound together in a union that is simultaneously a battlefield and, slowly, something far more complicated.

The novel’s dystopian architecture draws clear influence from The Hunger Games and The Handmaid’s Tale, but Wolfe is not simply recombining existing pieces. The class structure – the rings of privilege and poverty – is rendered with specificity. The political machinery that keeps The Heart in power has genuine menace. And crucially, both protagonists have real moral complexity: Shadera’s lethal competence is countered by moments of vulnerability, and Greyson’s public persona conceals something the reader gradually comes to understand. The pacing is demanding – readers who devoured this in under forty-eight hours are not exaggerating the pull. There are plot twists that genuinely land.

Running to 17 hours, this is a substantial listen. The ending will leave you immediately wanting Book 2.

The Narration

No narrator details are available for this edition. The production from Tor Bramble is polished, and the dual-POV structure translates well to audio, with distinct character voices that help the reader track perspective shifts. For a debut that went from indie to major publisher, the audio presentation feels appropriately flagship.

What Readers Say

The response has been intense. One UK reviewer described being “completely feral” over the book, praising the dark setting and vicious enemies-to-lovers arc. Another, writing from a book club context, noted consuming the novel in under 48 hours: “the pace is feral. Blink and you miss something important.” Multiple reviewers singled out the ending as particularly devastating – in the best possible sense. The rating stands at 4.6 stars across 20 reviews, with a strong cluster of fives and praise for the writing’s immersive quality. Several noted the emotional toll: crying, gasping, needing to take breaks. High praise in this genre.

Who Should Listen?

Readers who love dystopian romance with genuine darkness – not the sanitised kind – will find this exactly what they’re looking for. Daggermouth fits alongside Fourth Wing, Babel, and Conform in its blend of political intrigue, impossible stakes, and slow-burning romantic tension. If you prefer your fiction morally uncomplicated, look elsewhere. But if you want characters who are genuinely tested, a world that feels threatening, and a love story that earns its feeling, this is a superb choice. I haven't felt this strung out – in the best way – about a book in a minute.

This was so intense I had to read it in short bursts because I'd get so worked up, I kept needing to take a breather and calm down, but that did not stop me from being completely consumed by it. Oh, and the ending totally ruined me btw. No big…
